Keith Sackewitz was appointed to the Tehachapi City Council on February 6, 2023 to fill the remaining two-year term left by the election of Christina Scrivner to the Kern Community College District Board of Trustees.
Sackewitz, now retired, first moved to Tehachapi in 1963 and had four children in Tehachapi, before relocating to Bakersfield in 1972 to pursue employment opportunities. He was active in Bakersfield supporting many local organizations and clubs including the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. He returned to Tehachapi in 2008 and for the last 12 years has been involved with the Tehachapi Rail Depot Museum where he has served as Vice President of ‘Friends of the Tehachapi Depot’ since 2014. He is also active locally with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Along with volunteering at the Depot Museum and serving on the board, Keith Sackewitz was instrumental in the fundraising efforts for the Tehachapi Loop overlook project that ultimately led to the construction of a safe viewing platform for sightseers to view the Tehachapi Loop off Woodford-Tehachapi road. He is actively working with the Depot Museum board to relocate the recently-acquired caboose located near Kohnen’s Bakery to the adjacent Tehachapi Depot property and incorporate it into the museum displays.
Sackewitz’s term expires in November 2024.
