The City’s wastewater collection system includes 40 miles of sanitary sewers and a wastewater treatment plant that is capable of treating 1.25 million gallons per day. The wastewater treatment plant utilizes an activated sludge process and is currently under construction of several process improvements.
Waste Water Treatment Plant
Tehachapi’s wastewater treatment plant is designed to treat a maximum flow of 1.25 million gallons per day of wastewater. The treatment process utilized is called Activated Sludge.
Activated Sludge is a biological process where microorganisms are given an adequate amount of oxygen, allowing them to breakdown the organic matter in wastewater.
Wastewater treatment plants help eliminate harmful bacteria that can be present in raw wastewater. Not only does eliminating harmful bacteria help prevent the potential for groundwater pollution, it also provides a protection towards the public’s health.
